military trend

For everyone who follows fashion diligently, they will understand what I'm talking about when I say that the military trend is all over the place right now. Army green-inspired cargo skinnies by J Brand is very popular right now as well as blazers with big buttons and epaulets.

For shoes, the combat boots are back in trend. The last time I remember this was in fashion was back in the 90's - during the grunge era. Just goes to show that fashion is really like a wheel - the trends just go around and around. With a different twist to it everytime it comes back, of course.

Shell earrings I bought from St. Croix, vintage necklace with green stones, shirtdress by Love Stitch, socks by Hue, boots by Steven Madden

My two current loves!
Love this necklace! I have been using it to spice up most of my outfits or use it as a finishing touch.
Second, I love this jacket! It's from Rachel Roy and it's cropped. It also has the softest leather I have ever touched. I can practically wear it with any outfit and now that it's fall, it's perfect for the season.

I'm the person who always scrunches the sleeves and pushes them up - whether they be of a dress shirt, a sweater, a trench coat or in this particular case, a leather jacket. In my opinion, a leather jacket with pushed-up sleeves adds a cool factor to the whole ensemble. But that's just me..

leather for office

Even though our office is by Wall St, I'm glad that I work in a creative environment wherein our work clothes are not limited to suits. I can almost wear anything except for jeans and shorts. I got it pretty good.

I have been seeing a lot of leather shorts and skirts out lately so I busted out my one office-appropriate leather skirt.

What do you think?

j crew inspired outfit

Lately, I have become a fan of J Crew. The styling on their lookbook is phenomenal. Since Jenna Lyons stepped in as the creative director, she has turned around the brand and gave it serious fashion cred. Just for the past few months alone, I have bought 5 blazers from them! And I have checked out from time to time Jenna Lyons' picks on the brand's website. It has been an inspiration for me when I pick out something to wear everyday.

I love how she mixes different styles together like a denim shirt (I am so into them lately that they have become my daily uniform) and a sparkly, cocktail skirt. I like that kind of disheveled, rugged-y yet chic sense of fashion. Very different. Very fresh. Very unexpected.

So in honor of my current obsession with them, I have copied one of their fashion looks from their lookbook. In one of their looks, she mixed a fur vest with a denim shirt. I have never seen that kind of combination before and I loved it!

For more of their looks, check them out at www.jcrew.com. And pls check out mine below.

beige is the new black

I have always loved brown/beige/nude-colored shoes. I have read a long time ago that it makes your legs appear longer and it's actually true! On top of that, you can practically wear them with any color and with any outfit - be it a dress, jeans, or shorts.

So since my blog is aptly named stilettos, the hubby took pictures of me wearing a few of my favorite brown/beige/nude-colored shoes.

Talking about stilettos - the hubby made a comment while we were on a long, precarious hike to the tide pools - let me tell you that when I say it's long, I meant we had to walk by a small cliff, over a river, in the middle of tall grasses and finally we had to climb on rocks. Literally climb on big rocks. Like spiderwoman.

Anyway, he made a comment that I could have probably made the hike wearing stilettos. Just goes to show how much he knows the wifey! I have prowess when wearing any kind of heels - meaning I could walk and climb anywhere. Like spiderwoman - only wearing 6-inch heeled boots. Hot.

Casadei booties

Ermanno Scervino peep toes (I wore this on an outfit on one of my past blogs and I'm sure this will be appearing in future blogs as well - weather permitting. This is one of my current faves!)

Christian Louboutin (I do believe that a lady needs to own a Louboutin or two. Or three.)

Sergio Rossi pointy-toed heels

Sergio Rossi round-toed heels

Steven by steve madden (Love these sandals. Wore them all summer with practically everything. They have a vintage-y feel to it with the studs on the sides and with the wooden heels. Kinda like a 70s feel. Love, love, love!)

Steven by steve madden lace-up booties (And that's my baby right beside me - my Sammie! She's a tremendous help with my fashion style. If she doesn't eat my shoes, that means she likes it. Though she ate to pieces my beige croc skin peep-toes. She ate it like she hasn't eaten in months. And that was one of my faves as well. Oh well, maybe Sam has her reasons.)

paradise pictures, purchases, etc etc

I just can't help but post pictures of our vacation in St. Croix and of my purchases from the island. Enjoy!

Me & the hubby at the dive shop after the scuba dive. We were able to go down 40 feet on our first scuba dive. Pat on our backs, babe! Proud of myself. But big thanks to the Sweet Bottom staff and crew esp to Sam, Ryan and Gwen! You are all sweethearts!

Me & the hubby again at Buck Island, a small, uninhabited island north of St. Croix. It's also known as the Reef National Monument and it is protected by the United States. Turtles live on the island. Paradise on earth. Literally.

Point Udall - the easternmost point of the United States. If you stand here at dawn, you will be the first person in the United States to see the sun rise. Amazing right?

Gap long-sleeved henley, vintage belt, J Brand cut-offs, Alessandro Dell'Acqua sandals

My purchases!! The original hook bracelet made by a local jeweler in St. Croix - Sonya Ltd. Most of the local islanders wear one of these. I bought two sterling silvers and one 14k gold. The ring is mixed sterling silver and 14k gold. Locals say that if you wear it with the hook facing you, it means that you are already taken. Like me! But if you wear it facing away from you, it means you are single.

Below are the sandals that I packed for our vacation. What do you think?
